No Changes to CHSP Until July 2027 – What You Need to Know

  • 2 mins

You may have heard about upcoming changes to the aged care system, including the introduction of the Support at Home Program.

While this new program will bring changes to how care is delivered, we want to reassure you that there will be no changes to the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) until at least July 2027.

What’s Changing in Home Care?

The Australian Government is making improvements to home care to create a simpler, more flexible system. From 1 July 2025, Home Care Packages (HCP) and Short-Term Restorative Care (STRC) will transition into the new Support at Home Program. The goal is to provide better support for older Australians, ensuring care is tailored to individual needs while reducing administrative complexity.

What Does This Mean for CHSP Consumers?

If you receive services under CHSP, nothing will change for you right now. CHSP will continue operating as usual, with the same services and providers available to you. The government has extended CHSP until July 2027 to allow for a smooth transition and ensure people continue receiving the support they need.

What If My Needs Change?

If you feel that your current CHSP services are no longer meeting your needs, it might be time to explore other care options. A Home Care Package (HCP) may offer additional support and flexibility tailored to your circumstances. If you’re unsure about how to access an HCP or want to discuss whether it’s right for you, our team is here to help. We can guide you through the process and explain how to request an assessment through My Aged Care.
